Napa Valley Lodge
We decided to take a last minute family baby moon over Easter weekend, and it was just lovely! Jeff and I wanted to do something special for our little Ryder before his sister came, and because of COVID, we didn't want to venture too far from home. We decided on a tried and true for us - Napa - and found a cute little hotel with a heated pool (a must with an active toddler) and a spa (a must for Mama). The Napa Valley Lodge is located in downtown Yountville, which is a perfect spot since it's walking distance to just about everything you need, from shops to restaurants. Upon check in, we were notified that there was a complimentary breakfast we could order, which was super convenient and helped us plan out our weekend.
Let me just say it - traveling with a toddler is NOT the easiest, but it's nice for Mom and Dad to get a change of scenery. I think the best advice I can give anyone traveling with a toddler is to let go of any and all expectations because it will ruin your time away. I went into this weekend thinking of it more like a change of scenery and a nice little getaway vs. a relaxing vacation. No, your toddler isn't going to act perfect, and no, you aren't going to come out of the trip more rested. But, you will leave with a very full heart and tons of amazing memories!
Whenever we travel with Ryder we like to make sure to "prep" him for the trip about a week or so in advance. This way, he has an idea of what's going on, which really seems to help our little guy transition with any changes we make. While planning a trip with him, we also take into account keeping him on his schedule and how important it is for him to sleep even when we are away. A lot of the time this means early morning activities, afternoon naps, and early bird dinners for us!
Because of our hotel's awesome location, we were able to walk right across the street to a wonderful park to let Ryder get his energy out when he was getting bored with swimming. We also did lots of walking to and from the downtown area for our obligatory Bouchon Bakery stop, morning coffees, ice cream breaks, and dinners. Next time we visit Napa, Mama is looking forward to stopping at all the cute wine tasting rooms on our walks downtown, but until then this prego will stick to the sparkling water and Coca Cola classic!
